Miss Manners: How can I make them stop being rude about my employee’s hair?
Published Mon, 25 Nov 2024 09:03:55 GMT
DEAR MISS MANNERS: I am the manager of a gift store where my clientele mostly ranges from 40 to 70 years old. I have an employee in her early 20s who is sweet, super helpful and professionally courteous — everything you’d want in a worker. She has her own unique style, and changes her hair with fun colors or highlights; right now it’s a very pretty shade of light green.Several customers have made inappropriate comments to her about it, including laughing. One woman pointed at my employee, saying to her daughter, “See? I told you she had green hair. Isn’t that nuts?”My employee takes it in stride, smiling through it all, but I feel terrible. I’ve wanted to say something to these customers, but I don’t want to lose their business. Nor can I afford to lose my employee.I’m not sure what I can say to get them to stop being so rude to a human being in public.Related ArticlesAdvice | Miss Manners: Should I call people to expla...Dear Abby: My wonderful relationship has gone bad, and I’m scared

DEAR ABBY: I have been in a relationship for five years. It started out wonderful, but now I’m having second thoughts. He keeps putting my kids down and telling me I’m a bad mother. It’s so bad he has even put a knife to my throat. And, yes, he hits me.I am not an angel, but I always stand up for him and have his back. However, I don’t see him having mine. There’s so much more I could say, but I am scared if he knew I was writing to you it would end up bad for me. I need help, but I don’t know what to do. He has isolated me from my family and friends. Please help me. LOST AND AFRAID IN THE EASTDEAR LOST: The man you are involved with is a dangerous abuser. Published Mon, 25 Nov 2024 09:03:55 GMT
PARIS — The EU has robust banking safeguards in place to protect its lenders against the prospect of a new crisis, the European Commission’s economic chief said Thursday, adding that additional rules are also around the corner.“From a supervisory point of view, we are not in a vacuum,” Paolo Gentiloni said at POLITICO’s Finance Summit after UBS bailed out its Swiss rival Credit Suisse, raising fears that a crisis born in the U.S. was spreading to Europe. “We are, I think, supervising our banking system in a very effective way.”But improvements can still be made. EU legislators have been unable to agree on a shared deposit insurance system to back up national cash pots. As a compromise, eurozone finance ministers have called on the Commission to propose measures that will close loopholes in bank crisis management and deposit insurance (CMDI).“The Commission will do it in the second quarter of this year,” the Italian said after the proposal had disappeared from the legislative agenda ...Woman accused of attacking Lynn police before rough arrest set to face a judge

Biden aims to prove it with unionized 2024 staff
Published Mon, 25 Nov 2024 09:03:55 GMT
WASHINGTON (AP) — Joe Biden likes to say he’s the most pro-union president in U.S. history. When he announces his expected reelection campaign in the coming weeks, he’ll get the chance to prove it to his own staffers.Workers on his 2024 campaign will be unionized, political allies say, making him the first president to run a reelection campaign with staff represented by a union. That means hammering out a collectively bargained agreement that could establish salary minimums, set work hours and offer overtime pay, among other things, easing the demands on a workforce that has historically been required to put in long hours for meager pay and guaranteed joblessness after Election Day.The move allows Biden to further demonstrate to his base just how deep his pro-labor convictions are, providing a strong contrast with his Republican opponents, whose staffers aren’t likely to embrace unionizing. It also means extra work for those at the top of Biden’s campaign to ...Latest news
