The state’s oil and gas industry will face new rules cracking down on emissions as the state battles to bring the Denver area and northern Colorado into line with federal air-quality standards.Gov. Jared Polis announced Thursday that the state will develop “the most ambitious rule in Colorado’s history” to cut nitrogen oxide emissions, which form ground-level ozone pollution. State regulators believe they will be the first of their kind in the nation. The state has passed a series of new oil and gas rules, including ones requiring cuts in methane emissions, since a 2019 law mandated a change in how the industry is regulated. However, Polis said the industry still has a significant impact on the state’s air quality and greenhouse-gas emissions. This year, oil and gas production is projected to be the largest contributor of ozone-causing emissions in the part of the Front Range classified as “severe” violators of federal air quality standards, accordi...California Congressman wants to make 32-hour workweek a U.S. law

One California Congressman wants to make the four-day workweek a federal law.Rep. Mark Takano, a Democrat representing California’s 39th congressional district, reintroduced the 32-Hour Workweek Act, a bill that would reduce the standard 40-hour workweek to 32 hours by amending the Fair Labor Standards Act. The bill would also mandate overtime pay for any work done after 32 hours and applies to non-exempt employees who typically work hourly jobs in various sectors, including transportation, wholesale and retail. California lawmaker proposes bill to limit the risk of homelessness for state renters The legislation was initially introduced by Democratic Reps. Pramila Jayapal of Washington and Jan Schakowsky of Illinois. “Workers across the nation are collectively reimagining their relationship to labor – and our laws need to follow suit,” Takano said in a statement. “We have before us the opportunity to make common sense changes to work standards passed down from ...Desert X Asks Desert Why?

Desert X, the Coachella Valley land art biennial, has opened its fourth edition in a curious position — the project’s media profile has grown, even as its physical scope has contracted. Its inaugural edition in 2017 was festooned in mystery, novelty and a cheerfully brazen spirit of experiment and adventure; the 2019 return saw massive expansion in territory and social ambitions. Centering on large-scale sculptures and other temporary interventions in the desert landscape, the ethos was a journey-based take on the classic American western road trip with all the self-reflection and grounded attention that entails. Along the way, issues of land use, resource allocation, Indigenous stewardship, development, climate, spiritual and cinematic mythography, colonialism, labor, language, and the sometimes contentious discourse between international and regional culture were inevitably raised. In 2021, the size was scaled back for pandemic reasons, but the edition still produced many poignant ...Jamel Tyrone Oliver Killed in Pedestrian Crash on Elkhorn Boulevard [North Highlands, CA]

Marking a decade of dazzling entertainment delights, the Hollywood Burlesque Festival returns to elevate and celebrate the art of strip tease-driven performance. The event, which used to take place every other year (COVID put the kabosh on the 2021 edition) will now be an annual affair, so they’re going big for the comeback.Over 70 performers from across the country are scheduled to appear over the weekend, showcasing the breadth of burlesque– from thematic dance to comical cabaret. In addition to nightly shows, there’s a red-carpet photo op-packed pre-party Friday night, an afterparty on Saturday, and brunch on Sunday, plus classes and workshops from the biggest stage stars. The event is perfectly timed for Women’s History Month, especially in 2023, when conservatives continually seek to stifle female sexual expression (and body autonomy). As we’ve written before, burlesque is about empowering women to honor themselves and their sensuality. It’s about spotlighting all forms of...Santa Cruz high schooler dies during midnight swim

SAN JOSE – Defenseman Shakir Mukhamadullin, one of the key players the Sharks acquired from the New Jersey Devils as part of last month’s Timo Meier trade, was set to arrive in the Bay Area from Russia on Thursday, although it remained unclear when he would play his first game with his new organization.Mukhamadullin, 21, was one of New Jersey’s three first-round draft choices in 2020 and just completed his season with Salavat Yulayev-Ufa of the KHL. He was eager to come to California and meet people inside his new organization, a team official said. The 6-foot-3, 195-pound Mukhamadullin had 25 points in 67 regular season games for Salavat Yulayev, which is coached by former Sharks player Viktor Kozlov. PEORIA, Ariz. — With Opening Day two weeks away, it is looking less and less likely that the Giants’ highest-priced free-agent addition will be ready for the season. However, what could be the final piece of their bullpen is progressing toward possibly being good to go.Mitch Haniger, who was shut down last week with an oblique strain, will require another week or 10 days before the Giants evaluate his ability to return to baseball activity, manager Gabe Kapler said Thursday. A Bay Area native, Haniger signed a three-year, $43.5 million contract this offseason to join his childhood club, but with his status still uncertain as the opener draws near, it is increasingly likely his Giants debut will have to wait.“He’s responded really well to the rehab process. I just don’t think we’ve had enough answers yet,” manager Gabe Kapler said. “We’re just going to gradually build him up. I don’t think there’s any rush to get him ready.”Haniger, 32, was limited to 57...Single family residence sells in Palo Alto for $3.2 million
