Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 16:23:48 GMT

ATLANTA — The Twins reached the midway point of their season on Tuesday night in some ways where they wanted to be — first place in the American League Central — and in other ways, far, far from it — under. 500 after a first half filled with offensive inconsistencies. After their first 81 games, the Twins sat 40-41, half a game up on second-place Cleveland. After getting swept by Atlanta on Wednesday, the Twins dropped into a tie for first place. The Guardians played the Royals on Wednesday night.“I think all of us know that we’re capable of more. I think that’s no secret around the clubhouse between the staff and the players,” catcher Ryan Jeffers said. “I think everybody’s pretty cognizant of the fact that we have to play better baseball. I think we definitely have it in us.”The Twins ended the first half of their season with an earned-run average of 3.70, fourth best in the majors, thanks in large part to a starting rotation that has been one of the best. Timberwolves waive Taurean Prince to free up salary cap space

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 16:23:48 GMT

Taurean Prince was a salary cap casualty for the Timberwolves. Minnesota waived the veteran forward Wednesday, just ahead of  Prince’s 2023-24 $7.5 million salary guarantee date. The move clears the entirety of Prince’s salary off the books for next season, and he will now enter free agency if he is not claimed by one of the other 29 NBA teams. Prince was a useful bench piece for the Timberwolves each of the past two seasons. The Wolves went 31-23 in the regular-season game in which Prince played last season, and just 11-17 in the 28 he missed as a shoulder injury sidelined the 29-year-old for a chunk of the season. Prince provided toughness, shooting and defense. He was perhaps Minnesota’s best off-the-catch player and was an invaluable veteran presence in the locker room, known fondly by his teammates as “TP” or “Peezy.”Prince averaged 9.1 points per game last season, while shooting 38 percent on 3-point attempts. His season highlight was a ...
