Loudoun County — the fastest-developing area in the D.C. region — is trying to prioritize improvements to perpetually congested stretches of U.S. Route 50, a major commuter route through Northern Virginia. The county board of supervisors on Tuesday will discuss what changes can be made over the next 40 years to improve the east-west route that runs 86 miles through Virginia. In Loudoun County, U.S. 50 consists of two lanes in the rural western county, where the Virginia Department of Transportation says daily traffic volume varies between 17,000 and 49,000 vehicles per day, from U.S. Route 15 to Old Ox Road, also known as Virginia State Route 606.As U.S. 50 moves east to Fairfax County, the average traffic volume through the Route 28/Sully Road interchange increases to more than 71,000 vehicles per day.In 2019, Loudoun County determined that Route 50, which is dominated by traffic lights, would ultimately be converted to a limited-access highway, between still-being-built Northstar Bo...Man killed in shooting near Catholic University

COOK, Minn. (AP) — No one was injured and no hazardous material spilled when nine Canadian National Railway cars derailed in northern Minnesota, officials there said. The derailment happened just before 8:30 p.m. Monday in a rural, unpopulated area about 6 miles (10 kilometers) north of Cook, the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. Sheriff’s deputies and firefighters who responded found four of the derailed cars had remained upright, while five others had tipped over. Two of the cars contained liquefied propane and butane, but none appeared to have spilled, the sheriff’s office said.Canadian National Railway did not immediately respond Tuesday morning to requests seeking comment on the cause of the derailment or when the line would reopen to rail traffic. The derailment comes less than two months after a Canadian Pacific Kansas City train derailed in the northwest corner of the state near the Canadian border. Turning a kitchen’s forgotten food into meals takes improvising

I usually cook a nice meal from scratch every night, even when it’s only my husband and me for dinner. Our weekly menu might include fish, chicken, pasta, and a couple of time-intensive dishes like eggplant moussaka, jap chae or chili.Leftovers, and there are a lot, go into the freezer — where they’re often forgotten, tucked behind ice-cube trays, half-eaten cartons of ice cream, and bags of soup dumplings and frozen peas.So when my husband went away for a week, I decided to clear out that freezer — along with the fridge and pantry — and save myself from real cooking for a few days. I wouldn’t even go grocery shopping; I’d save on the food bill and improvise on recipes.I liked the idea of decluttering without tossing mysterious containers of wasted food into the trash. I’d consume whatever I reasonably could. There were some odds and ends in the vegetable drawer — cherry tomatoes, carrots and celery on their last legs, some fruit and a cabbage (more on that later) — so I would...You always hear about the ‘nuclear football.’ Here’s the behind-the-scenes story

WASHINGTON (AP) — The most important — and mysterious — “football” in the world isn’t really a football at all. Officially called the “ Presidential Emergency Satchel, ” the “nuclear football” is a bulky briefcase that contains atomic war plans and enables the president to transmit nuclear orders to the Pentagon. The heavy case is carried by a military officer who is never far behind the president, whether the commander-in-chief is boarding a helicopter or exiting meetings with world leaders.Beyond those basic facts, however, not much is known about the satchel, which has come to symbolize the massive power of the presidency. Let’s change that. William Burr, a senior analyst at the nonprofit National Security Archive at George Washington University, published a report Tuesday detailing his recent research into the presidential pigskin. Among the tidbits Burr unearthed: The football once contained presidential decrees that some in the U.S. government came to believe were ...Trump dice que es objetivo en la investigación del ataque al Capitolio e intentos de anular las elecciones de 2020
